The Essex Genealogist

The Society publishes The Essex Genealogist, or TEG, a scholarly genealogical journal on a quarterly basis.  This journal contains reports on research in Essex County, Massachusetts, and its environs, transcripts of presentations to the society, queries and other items of interest to the membership.
The Essex Genealogist is typically published in February, May, August and November, and is included as a benefit of membership. It can be received either by postal mail or electronically as a downloadable and searchable .pdf file.

A complete set of TEG back issues are available from 1981 to date, along with finding aids, on our website in the Members section. You must be a current ESOG member and use your login information to access these as .pdf files.

Scanned and searchable back issues of our journal up until five years ago may be found on the American Ancestors website from NEHGS.

If you would like to submit an article to TEG, please refer to the Submission Guidelines below.

Submission Guidelines for our Journal, The Essex Genealogist

The Essex Genealogist, or TEG, welcomes a variety of submissions related to genealogy, including family histories, interesting ancestors, genealogical discoveries, brick wall problems and solutions, Ahnentafels, and queries. Transcriptions of records, such as family Bibles or local gravestone inscriptions, would be very useful. Material related to Essex County will be given preference, but articles on genealogical methodology, record repositories, or websites would be helpful as well. Photographs of Essex County historic sites or scenery would be most welcome.

Submissions are to be sent by email in an editable Microsoft Word Document to teg@esog.org. They are received year-round. The editor reserves the right to accept or reject any submission, and requests articles to be submitted to TEG exclusively and not concurrently to other journals.

Submissions should be in 12-point Times New Roman, with line spacing of 1.15. Insert a blank line between paragraphs, with no first-line indent.

Submissions should be properly cited.

The editor will acknowledge submissions promptly and will communicate with the author regarding revisions and expected publication date.

Neither the editor nor the Essex Society of Genealogists assumes responsibility for the content of submissions. Articles and lectures do not reflect the views of the editor or the Society.
